Greetings Tweeters,

We added two species to our year list in November. A Mountain Chickadee (code 5) arrived in a Bell Street yard, near Yost Park, on November 1st. It visited feeders on a nearby property a few days later. Our previous records for this species are one in 1987 on 98th Ave. W., and one at Harbor Square (near the marsh) in 2004. An Iceland (Thayer's) Gull (code 4) was on the waterfront on November 6th. A Great Egret (code 4) was at the Edmonds marina, on one of the breakwaters, on November 7th. A photo of it is on the Port of Edmonds Facebook page. As far as we know, it was on the inside of the breakwater and not reported by any birders. One was last seen in November 2017 at both the marsh and the waterfront.

While not new for the year list, an immature Peregrine Falcon (code 3) was at the marsh on November 6th. Always a great bird to have around. The adult that had been at Haines Wharf Park in September has not been reported recently.

Late Report: A Northern Saw-whet Owl (code 5) showed up inside a water feature on a property near the southwest side of Pine Ridge Park. The bird appeared sick and was taken to PAWS for rehabilitation. The bird improved, was flying, and then had a setback and died. Our previous records of this species are in Yost Park in 2009 and 2015. There have probably been more appearances in Edmonds that we do not hear about.

We are approaching the fourth anniversary of the only Laysan Albatross sighting in Edmonds (December 14, 2015). I write a bird column for an Edmonds local news web site. I have exhausted over the years all of the regular birds that can be seen in Edmonds so I'm now writing up some of the rarities. If you are interested in reading a bit about this albatross and the species in general, you can look at the column at this link: https://myedmondsnews.com/2019/12/bird-lore-laysan-albatross/ <https://myedmondsnews.com/2019/12/bird-lore-laysan-albatross/>. Blair Bernson provided the photos, probably from Westport Seabirds trips, that we used.

Our year list is at 181. Species on our collective list are noted in the bird information display box at the Olympic Beach Visitor Station at the base of the public pier. If you would like a copy of the current Edmonds checklist, please request it at checklistedmonds at gmail.com <mailto:checklistedmonds at gmail.com>. As always, if you have a good sighting for Edmonds, please email me directly so that we will know about it. Thanks.
