Michael was out of town today, so Brian Bell & I took the lead with another 6 people for a pleasant, overcast, but not particularly birdy day. A few highlights though kept us on our toes:

Highlights:
4 Owl species pre-dawn - One each of Great Horned Owl [heard only], Barn Owl, Western Screech-Owl, and N. Saw-whet Owl - not sure when we've last had a 4 owl day!
Swamp Sparrow - heard only, but heard well, a little below the weir along the slough
Green Heron - one on its winter spot, on the beaver lodge
Wilson's Snipe - 12 in the still good mud below the weir
Western Meadowlark - 6 in model airplane field

Misses and near-misses included all finches except a handful of House Finch [poorly seen], Bushtit, any gulls except GWGU and hybrid, Ring-necked Duck, Lincoln's Sparrow, Cedar Waxwing. Unlike recent weeks, the Cackling Geese were present only in one small flock of maybe 200.

For the day, 53 species
