Subject: [Tweeters] Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) Eagles Pride Golf Course monthly bird walk - 12-19-2019

Tweeters,

We REALLY lucked out with the weather today: The forecast was for lots of rain, but none of it really started until about 20 minutes after we finished walking the JBLM Eagles Pride Golf Course route. The temperature may have kept the birds quiet at the beginning (41degF), but it warmed up a bit later (46degF), which seemed to help with more activity. Highlights include many more ducks (see list, below); an uncommon (for us) HAIRY WOODPECKER (2 of these); and a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER. The latter shouldn't be uncommon, but it seems to be for this site. Unusual for this sighting was the fact that it was spotted in willows next to a pond, and not in the more typical conifer forest area that is much more abundant at Eagles Pride. Eight NORTHERN FLICKERS were feeding in a group (in a 40-yard area) on one of the fairways. This is largest grouping of Flickers we've seen since we had nine feeding in an area several years ago.

The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at 8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. Upcoming walks include the following:

* January 16

* February 20

* March 19

Anyone is welcome to join us!
