Last year a flock of varied thrushes used my hanging suet feeders throughout the winter, almost as skillfully as, and more persistently than, the woodpeckers. This winter there were no varied thrushes here until a couple weeks ago, and they forage underneath the tree. Not one has even tried to figure out the hanging feeders. They need a mentor.
