Subject: [Tweeters] Walla Walla County January 1 Big Day

Hello all,

Nice weather made the birding more fun - chilly but no wind, rain or
snow. Eleven of us were out most of the day and found 114 species - 4
less than last year. Dian found a RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER up Biscuit Ridge
Rd just out of Dixie - our first winter record. Little ice at the river
and some mud produced Dunlin, Killdeer, LEAST SANDPIPER, Long-billed
Dowitcher and LESSER YELLOWLEGS. One continuing RED-NECKED GREBE was at
its usual spot above Ice Harbor Dam

Madam Dorion Park is a good sparrow spot and we weren't disappointed!
SWAMP, HARRIS'S, WHITE-THROATED and many Wcrowns there. Northern
Goshawk, Ferruginous Hawk, Rock Wren were found and a Short-eared Owl at
sunset finished off the day for us.

Misses - Pine Siskin!, Red-breasted Merganser, Peregrine Falcon (saw 2
on the 31st!), Fox and GC Sparrow and Steller's Jay.

Good birding, M&ML
