We love Nome and Barrow. Neither city gets visited by the big cruise ships. Half the populations of both cities is indigenous populations. So quick and easy to reach from Seattle yet so remote. Nome has 250 miles of gravel roads and almost no paved roads. We set out at 5:30 in the morning and usually did not see another car for two hours. Barrow has no paved roads and is limited as to miles of road but is distinctive with its location on the Arctic Ocean. We still had light snow every morning in early June. Early reservations are advised for late May and early June as there is minimal lodging in both cities. Be sure you have an Alaska credit card with a $99 companion fare if you visit these locations.

We just completed a trip to both cities which we have posted on our web site. I love birds and love getting them full frame. I am not motivated by bird counts and depend on my wife to try to get the names right. But we have lots of fun. We just posted our most recent trip on our web site: http://elstonhill.com/Nome2019.html <http://elstonhill.com/Nome2019.html>
