Our next pelagic trip is scheduled for next Saturday. June's a very interesting time to be out at sea. Our Arctic breeders will probably not have started their journey south, but we could encounter a few. What I noticed most from looking at our June trips for the last 20 years is some of the unusual sightings.

We've had multiple sightings of Laysan Albatross and two of Short-tailed Albatross. We've seen South Polar Skuas on several trips, Ancient Murrelets with young, 8 Scripp's Murrelets one time, a Great Shearwater and our only sighting of a Ashy Storm-Petrel. We'll be looking for Leach's Storm-Petrels in the deeper water, along with the expected Fork-tailed Storm-Petrels. Other common birds in June are Black-footed Albatross, Pink-footed and Sooty Shearwaters, Cassin's and Rhinoceros Auklets, Common Murres, Tufted Puffin and Northern Fulmar.
