Tweeters,
On a nice day, though a bit cool (52degF) to start and most of us wearing topside clothing like sweaters, vests, etc., the 15 of us had a leisurely stroll around the JBLM Eagles Pride golf course. By the end of the walk the temp had risen 10degF, and our species count was at 48. Highlights include six tiny HOODED MERGANSER young with the adult female at the maintenance pond; three half-grown PIED-BILLED GREBES with two adults, and seven tiny MALLARD ducklings and five half-grown MALLARDS at Hodge Lake; two standing-on-the-nest large juvenile RED-TAILED HAWKS at the Hodge Lake nest site; five warbler species; and both HUTTON'S and CASSIN'S VIREOS.
The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at 8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. Upcoming walks include the following:
* July 18
* August 15
* September 19
Anyone is welcome to join us!
