Hi Tweets



Yesterday, Seattle Audubon took a trip over to Kittitas County for Sage
birds. We left Issaquah early, but did have AMERICAN ROBIN, SONG SPARROW,
PACIFIC WREN and AMERICAN CROW in the barely light, cloudy overcast with a
warm 55F temperature.



Along I-90 between Issaquah and Ellensburg we saw AMERICAN CROW, COMMON
RAVEN, RED-TAILED HAWK, MALLARD, WESTERN MEADOWLARK, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE,
CANADA GOOSE COMMON MERGANSER, swans (including at least one juvenile
TRUMPETER), RING-NECKED DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD, GREAT BLUE HERON, NORTHERN PINTAIL
and AMERICAN WIGEON (most of the waterbirds were in the bar-ponds just
outside of Ellensburg). At Snoqualmie Pass it was still a warmish 43F, we
rapidly broke into clear, sunny skies and. a PEREGRINE FALCON flew over



In the town of Kittitas we saw BREWER'S BLACKBIRD, HOUSE SPARROW, EUROPEAN
STARLING, GREAT BLUE HERON, HOUSE FINCH, EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE, and
MOURNING DOVE.



On Caribou Rd. we saw CALIFORNIA QUAIL, AMERICAN ROBIN, RED-TAILED HAWK,
MOURNING DOVE, and EUROPEAN STARLING. Along the Vantage Highway we had more
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVEs, RED-TAILED HAWK, EUROPEAN STARLING, WESTERN
MEADOWLARK, AMERICAN KESTREL, MALLARD and HOUSE SPARROW. On Parke Creek Rd.
we had EUROPEAN STARLING, KILLDEER, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, GREEN-WINGED TEAL,
MALLARD (the pond was mostly thawed), AMERICAN KESTREL (having breakfast).



Back on Vantage we had probable MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD (very quick look). We
stopped at Wild Horse Wind Farm and the snow remaining from last week was
almost all gone (we could walk part of the old road). We had nice looks at a
pair of MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDs, and managed to entice a SAGEBRUSH SPARROW in for
quick looks.



Down the hill we drove into the lower Quilomene Access (snow free but really
muddy) and managed to hear SAGEBRUSH SPARROW, saw HORNED LARK, MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRD and COMMON RAVEN.



At Rocky Coulee and the Columbia River we saw SAY'S PHOEBE, NORTHERN
FLICKER, REDHEAD, AMERICAN ROBIN, COMMON GOLDENEYE, ROCK WREN, VIOLET-GREEN
SWALLOW, COMMON LOON, GREATER SCAUP and CANADA GOOSE. Up on top at the
Gingko Forest State Park center we saw VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW, heard CHUKAR
below us, and SAY'S PHOEBE (they haven't started building a nest on the
beams over the entrance to the Center yet.



We made a lunch stop at Wanapum State Park (temperature up to 53F) and heard
more CHUKAR, HOUSE FINCH, AMERICAN ROBIN, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, DARK-EYED
JUNCO, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, WESTERN MEADOWLARK, SPOTTED TOWHEE,
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, DOWNY WOODPECKER, KILLDEER, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD and
CANADA GOOSE.



Along Huntzinger Rd. we saw COMMON GOLDENEYE, LESSER SCAUP, RUDDY DUCK,
BUFFLEHEAD and AMERICAN COOT. At the Cove there were BUFFLEHEAD, LESSER
SCAUP, RING-NECKED DUCK, GREATER SCAUP, HORNED GREBE and COMMON RAVEN.



At the Huntzinger Boat Lauch (Wanapum Dam) we saw GREATER SCAUP, BARROW'S
GOLDENEYE, and COMMON LOON. At the wideish spot a bit further south on
Huntzinger we tried for both Canyon and Rock Wrens without success, But we
did see RING-BILLED and HERRING GULLs, and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW (a good
sized flock).



On the way home along SR97 we had EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE, RED-TAILED HAWK,
and COMMON RAVEN. On Bettas Rd. we had AMERICAN ROBIN, BREWER'S BLACKBIRD, a
magnificent ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, CASSIN'S FINCH, WESTERN BLUEBIRD. On Burke
Rd. we had a brief look at an AMERICAN DIPPER, a RED-TAILED HAWK and
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE.



On Swauk Prairie Rd. we had TREE SWALLOW, AMERICAN ROBIN, NORTHERN SHRIKE,
COMMON RAVEN, and HOUSE SPARROW.



On Ballard Hill Rd. there were WESTERN BLUEBIRD, RED-TAILED HAWK, NORTHERN
SHRIKE, COMMON RAVEN, and HOUSE SPARROW. On Red Bridge Rd. we picked up PINE
SISKIN, and CALIFORNIA QUAIL.



We made our final stop at the Railroad Ponds in Cle Elum and saw BUFFLEHEAD,
BLACK-CAPPED CHICKDEE, COMMON MERGANSER, BALD EAGLE, SPOTTED TOWHEE,
RING-NECKED DUCK, STELLER'S JAY, TRUMPETER SWAN, PYGMY NUTHATCH, MOUNTAIN
CHICKADEE, TURKEY VULTURE, NORTHERN FLICKER, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD and DOWNY
WOODPECKER.



We added ROCK PIGEON as we came back into Issaquah.



It was an excellent day with great weather (a high temperature of 55F) and
good birding friends. We finished up with 68 species.
