George Pagos and I birded Bottle Beach today and had nice looks at a good variety of birds. We had 10 species of shorebirds including; Dunlin, W. Sandpiper, L. Sandpiper, Semi-Palmated Plover, Black-bellied Plover, Long-billed Dowitcher, Short-billed Dowitcher, Killdeer, Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Greater Yellowlegs and over 100 Red Knots. There was one Red Knot with an orange tag on on leg. We couldn't read it but I figure someone might want to know we had a banded bird.

I went to Westport boat basin to see if I could find any Marbled Godwits, but they have gone. The best species for the day was 8 Long-billed Curlews at Graveyard Spit. On the way from Tokeland to Raymond there were numerous peeps on the mudflats near the highway. I would estimate there were between 30,000-50,000 birds spread out over a couple of miles along the road.

For those of you going out to Grays Harbor for the Shorebird Festival you are in for a treat. I have birded that part of the coast for over 25 years and have never seen the number of birds I saw today.
