While on the way to this year's WOS conference, I made a stop at the Teanaway River bridge on Hwy 10. As expected, there was a family of Dippers. One adult was attempting to feed the young, but with a twist. When a morsel was offered, the parent would often stand on the chick's back as if trying to teach it that it should know how to feed while submerged. Not sure that there was much learning during this session and, while I watched, none of the chicks was successfully fed. Wondering if this behavior is typical.
