Are there  squirrels in your area?   If so, take measures to keep them out of the feeders.  Otherwise you will spend a fortune feeding those pesky rodents instead of the birds.  Options include the Squirrel Buster seed feeder, a hood over the feeder, and something to keep the squirrels from climbing up the supporting structure.
Pay attention to the area below the feeder.  An accumulation of spilled seeds can lead to rodents and other problems.   Finally, make sure you have easy access to the feeders for refilling and cleaning.

Experiment with different seed mixes to see what appeals to your local avian populace.
