At 0400 today I heard a Barred Owl calling repeatedly near 62nd St and 32nd
Ave NW. I think this is the first time I've heard them in 20 years of
living in this house (although I don't keep notes and have an unreliable
memory!)

There are only isolated big trees or small clusters of three or four of
them in this neighborhood, so it seems like fairly marginal habitat. If
Barred Owls are now so abundant that they have to spill over into this
area, I fear it's RIP for the Western Screech Owl. Please reassure me if
I'm wrong.
