House Finches have been notably scarce at Marymoor this winter. We've had very low numbers, missing then completely several weeks. At my house, I've had one or two pair, max. Purple Finch numbers have also been below average at Marymoor this winter. We didn't get our first American Goldfinch for the year until very recently at Marymoor, whereas they are usually around sparsely in winter. Pine Siskins have been present often, but in small numbers. And we haven't had any unusual finches at Marymoor this winter. Generally, a terrible winter for finches.

Subject: [Tweeters] house finches anyone?

House finches used to be the predominant species at my backyard feeders in Edmonds. They have been conspicuous in their absence since last fall as my safflower feeder as pretty much gone untouched. I have seen a lone male at the feeder twice this week.


Anyone care to comment on the presence or absence of house finches in their area?
