Quite an unusual event today. Around 12:40 Cindy McCormack found a
Swainson's Hawk near Vancouver Lake. I was close by, and was able to
relocate it about 5 minutes later, only my second sighting in Clark County
over 10 years. Our birding text group got word, and in total 3 others got
there for a second SWHA, then a third, and finally a fourth bird including
some photos. After going through all of our pictures we may wind up with a
total of 5 Swainson's Hawks during that hour+ of viewing, will see what
photos everyone shares; check ebird. One of those or a different bird
apparently headed far enough north to fly over Bob Flores's house later this
afternoon. This is not Neah Bay birding and today is not the first of
April, but everybody down here is thanking Cindy for finding and sharing
news quickly about the first one.
