A stunning day to bird at Deer Lagoon, and FOY surprises continue. Today's
highlight were 6 long-billed curlews on the salt-water side tideflats,
foraging with a few whimbrels; helpful contrast in size of bodies and bill
length. Caspian terns now number 200+ and were fishing for shinner perch
(Cymatogaster aggregata) in shallow tidal channels. Also more black-bellied
plovers in full breeding plumage, and assorted dunlins, yellow-legs and
willets.
