After seeing the huge Bonaparte's flock yesterday, and spurred further by the many ebird reports of even huger flocks (7,000(!!!)), I left my stay-at-home desk at the end of the day, hopped on my bike, and headed to Golden Gardens. Not a darn Bonaparte's anywhere. Sadly packing up, literally as I swung my leg over the bike to ride home, an interesting group appear coming up over the breakwater. Four Whimbrels! They looked tired, and like they really wanted to land - but GG was packed. They headed up around the point and looked like they might set down - I headed up there I found no sign, but there were people up there too. Made me aware of how tough that long stretch of armored beach is north of GG with no nice stops - but hopefully if they can make it 1,000s of miles, they can make a few more.
