Hi Blair - whenever you get the chance to read a band or an "auxiliary color marker" such as a neck collar, patagial tag, or a leg flag like your Red Knot, just go to the Bird Banding Lab web page and answer their questions. You'll get back a cool "Certificate of Appreciation", giving the date and place the bird was banded, and contact info for the bander if you need more information.
