Hi all,

As we continue with the unpleasant lockdown, I'd like to share my wife Maggie's photo from our recent trip to Kerala (in South India) and Sri Lanka. Those two locations have considerable species overlap, although Sri Lanka has about 35 endemic species, all of which we were able to see over our 10 days in-country, and most of them are among the photos in the slide-deck. Any bird with an (E) on it is endemic to Sri Lanka. There are some birds that are endemic to South India as well, such as the Malabar Whistling Thrush and the Nilgiri Woodpigeon that are pictured, but aren't called out. Our time in India was as independent as we could make it, but travel is a lot more restricted in India than it is in South America, for example. We hired drivers to take us all over, and entry to anything resembling good forest is forbidden without a guide. We used a guide/driver for our entire time in Sri Lanka, and are happy to make referrals - they did a great job and it cost about 1/3 of what a similar trip would cost in other countries.

We feel exceptionally lucky to have been able to slot this 3.5 week trip in over the last Christmas break. It was the longest birding trip we've ever taken, and both destinations are highly recommended ... once you can go! Please enjoy the photos: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmMqH9aY.
