Down at point Wilson this morning looking for Purple Plant Eaters (my nickname for California Broomrape a parasitic plant that parasitizes Grindellia, a showy yellow composite, and I did find a bunch), I couldn't help but notice that the main building down there which normally has a red roof was completely whitewashed and covered with the dark artists. I thought it was real attractive as abstract art. It was kinda like a West Coast Wyeth job.
The artists, Heermann's Gulls (other gulls probably deserve some credit) were flying around like mini Bald Eagles, with white heads and dark bodies (the youngsters are all dark), all laughing away. That's my alternative name for them, Mexican Laughing Gulls. Laughing at what? Probably us, the most ridiculous species on the planet.
Just sayin'
