We've had a pair (probably more) of Pileated Woodpeckers in our neighborhood for many years. Our utilities are above ground, so we have lots of wooden poles, which the PIWO love to excavate for bugs. That's where we see them mostly, but one time, some years ago, a male landed on the suet feeder hanging about 8 inches from our kitchen window while we were having lunch. The bird was about twice the size of the feeder! It swung around a few times and those big eyes stared at us in alarm and then off it flew! We were as startled as the bird was!

Today, for the first time, a pileated woodpecker came to eat! I found it amazing and very fun. In the past, I've simply seen pileated woodpeckers in the forest or occasionally at Marymoor, and also at a long distance. This was very close by and easy to see good detail. Is this a bird others see at their feeders?
