Hello,
For those who go birding in the Carnation Farm area over the next few
days/week or so, please keep a special eye out for any swan at the lake or
in the field that looks not so normal. There is a power line injured swan
that walked into Sikes Lake 2 days ago. Since I am working on monitoring
other swans in the north end I have not been able to get out to see about
this one. Some swans may also be ill at this time of year.
What is not normal:
swan sitting by itself on the shoreline
swan alone on lake swimming
swan gapping with mouth repeatedly or shaking head all the time
swan seen in same place for more than 24 hours
swan dead along shoreline: please call me immediately 206-713-3684

Thank you all. It seems we have had an increase in power line strikes in
3 locations due to the number of swans in the night roosts coming off the
roosts at one time. The last birds in the group are not seeing the lines or
cannot see them due to the mass of big flying birds in front of them.
