Dear Jack,
There has been a flock of a thousand or two Snow Geese on Samish Flats lately. Sometimes they can be seen from the West Ninety.
The biggest flocks lately have been in the Cedardale area. Most of these birds are east of I-5 and south of Mount Vernon. Cedardale Road and Stackpole Road (on the east side of the freeway) are good bets. I saw about eight thousand Snow Geese there a couple of days ago. Sometimes this flock ventures over to the west side of the freeway, or over to Fir Island.
On recent visits to Fir Island, most of the time I have seen only a few hundred Snow Geese, but a few times over the past few weeks, there have been larger numbers, often offshore.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch

I have missed seeing Snow Geese on my trips to Skagit this winter,
except as fly overs. I have heard that they are spending the days out in
the water, perhaps to avoid pressure from hunters. Have others had the
same experience?
