Hello Tweeters,

I regret to post that my small yard and feeders in the Lake Forest Park
area near the north end of Lake Washington have also witnessed seemingly
sick Pine Siskins. I've taken down my seed feeders to disinfect them, and
I'm not sure when I'll put them back up.

On a semi-related note, I have witnessed likely the same Cooper's Hawk take
a siskin per day two days in a row from my feeders. It was both gruesome
and awe-inspiring to see. This made me think that the birds taken were
potentially sick or sluggish in some way.

All this leads me to a question I hope some fellow tweeters might be able
to help with, and that is: can a raptor get sick from salmonella or other
diseases by eating a sick bird?

Keep watching the skies (and your feeders)
