Howdy!
Yesterday as I walked by the harbor where the Alaska ferry departs, I saw a couple of Canada geese, a few mallards, and a large-ish goose standing on the shore. It had a white breast, mottled black and white head and neck, and black and greenish body feathers with a white chevron near the tail. Does anyone know what this might be? It almost looks like a hybrid of some sort. In New Jersey a few times I saw water fowl that I was convinced were a hybrid of mallards and Canada goose, but few believed me. I didn't get photos then, but this time I got a good photo, although this bird does not look like those did. If anyone is interested please write me for the photo. Maybe it's something I should recognize, but I didn't see it on Merlin Bird ID or the Cornell website.
