Hi Dennis,

I ran the "Keystone" Breeding Bird Survey route over near Ritzville from 1994-2018. (Yes, indeed, there is more than one locality called Keystone - 3 that I know of - in the State of Washington . . . not as bad as "Blue Lake", but it can be confusing).

There was a colony of Bank Swallows along Lords Creek, just north of the junction of Platter Road with Highway 23; about 7-8 miles south of Harrington.

I first noticed this colony in 1998, and it waxed and waned a bit through the years. There are still some Bank Swallows seen along the BBS route, but since the landowner removed cattle from the streamside, the cut bank where the swallows nested has revegetated, and the colony has been abandoned after 2012.

Here are my totals from the BBS Route; almost all of them were counted in the Lords Creek area:

Bank Swallow

1995 0
1996 0
1997 0
1998 8
1999 4

2002 19
2003 8

2007 8
2008 8
2009 10

2012 9
2013 2
2014 4
2015 7
2016 0
2017 3
2018 0

Hope this helps,
Jon. Anderson
