I have really appreciated the in depth reporting on alcids in the SoJdF...very enlightening...

Have spent the last couple of weeks on Lopez, including several long kayaks (including the entire s. edge) and walks along several long beach stretches...Iceberg, Shark's Reef, Pt. Colville, Fish Bay isthmus

The shore is quite monotone honestly...a lot of Rhino Auklets moving to and fro through Cattle Pass, many juveniles spread out along the shore... earnest Guillemots, P. Cormorants, maybe five M. Murrelets total over two weeks. A lot of Oystercatchers, saw about 20 together (lots of kids) at mouth of Aleck Bay. Tons of Guillemots learning to fly zooming around Castle Island. A couple hundred mixed Least/Westerns on Fish Bay. Surprised not to see the Harlequins yet - but perhaps they are still in the mountains. Interior of the island nicely birdy, with a classic summer symphony of Towhees, Juncos, Creepers, Chickadees, WC Sparrows, Sav. Sparrows, S. Thrushes, Creepers, Hairy Woodpeckers, Red Crossbills, rare Pipit - with TVs and BEs soaring above - new appreciation for the lazy yet focused summer soar of the TV - watched a group of them gliding in a steady wind above Shark's Reef watching the sun set before wheeling to find their roost.
