Subject: [Tweeters] Westport Pelagic Trip, July 22, 2020

Our third pelagic of the year was this past Wednesday. Birders, mainly from Washington, two from Oregon and one from upper state New York, enjoyed a great trip.
The ocean was relatively calm and the weather, though overcast for most of the day, was great for viewing.

Covid protocol was observed by all, with masks required for most of the time.

Highlights include: Black-footed Albatross-104, Northern Fulmar-81, Pink-footed Shearwater-573, Sooty Shearwater-2783,
Fork-tailed Storm-Petrel-110, Leach's Storm-Petrel-42, South Polar Skua-1, Parasitic Jaeger-1, Cassin's Auklet-14 and Sabine's Gull-13.

Mammal highlights: Humpback Whale-8 (one breaching), Dall's Porpoise-6 and Pacific White-sided Dolphin-8. Several Ocean Sun Fish and Blue Sharks were also observed.
See the complete list of sightings on our website.

With the onset of Covid 19 early in the year, six of our scheduled trips were canceled. We're fortunate that the rest of our scheduled trips are a go.
The next five trips are filling up fast with some spaces available. For further information and to make reservations, please visit our website at www.westportseabirds.com

Spotters for this trip were Bill Tweit , Gene Revelas and myself. Phil and Chris Anderson were the boat personnel, spotters and great hosts!

Even with our shortened season, we're grateful we can still offer a chance to get out and see some birds and mammals.
