Dear Tweeters,
There is a proposal to add a parking lot to the Samish East Ninety. This is the spot between Edison and Samish Island, Skagit County, where the photographers park along the shoulder during Short-eared Owl season.

I hope I typed that correctly!
Here is a paste of a link that I found by doing a search for "Joint Public Notice + Samish."

It looks like the parking area would be on the east-west stretch of Samish Island Road, just west of the eBird hotspot called "Samish River Mouth," and just west and south (across the road) from the famous "eagle tree." The parking lot would not be in the ninety-degree bend of the road, which I think is good, since it is so dangerous there when people are standing on the roadside, on a sharp curve.
Interestingly, there is a plan to make a mitigation wetland at the southeast end of the West Ninety property, to offset the loss of habitat from the parking lot project. The mitigation site looks like it might end up being more interesting that the East Ninety itself.
Comment period ends on the second of July.
Oops! I just sent them a comment, but then realized that I had not noticed some fine print--there's a code number that one is supposed to include in the message. Red tape!
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
