Subject: [Tweeters] Edmonds backyard flicker 6-4-2020: yawning behavior

From: Bill Anderson - billandersonbic at yahoo.com

Thursday afternoon I photographed a female flicker exhibiting a "yawning" behavior while perched on one of the "habitat" trees in my backyard.  The bird raised and lowered her head several times while yawning. The bird had not been pecking at the stump.

I have never before seen such behavior  from a flicker.  Any explanations?   Photos can be seen by scrolling down page 4 of this link.
