If any of you are up for a swan ID challenge you can go to the Crescent
Lake Wildlife Area south of Monroe. In the field across from Crescent Lake
I found 49 swans today. I expected them to be nearly all or all Trumpeters.
Not so. There were 14 Tundras, a mix of adults and juveniles mixed in with
Trumpeter adults and juveniles.
With a good spotting scope you can take the challenge and hone your
skills to discover which are which......and this group is not easy as both
species are all mixed together. It is a one by one ID. And if you have a
great lens and camera.....great photo op. Two of the tundra swan adults
have an interesting pattern of rust staining on heads and back of neck.
And there is one juvenile snow goose with them along with a 125 plus
Canada geese of at least 2 subspecies.
Let me know if anyone gets out there the next few days. They will be
gone very, very soon.

Spring migration is happening.
