Hello, yesterday I saw my first male Rufous Hummingbird, I'm sure more are
here. I was so focused on watching the feeder, I didn't realize he was
hitting the Flowering Red Currants. I have at least 7 of those, just on
the back garden area.
Also my first sighting of one of my male Lesser goldfinch. I took my
finch feeders down for a month in the fall, due to a forest full of mice
desiring to winter in our home. It helps a lot to remove them. But this
winter every finch I had rarely returned and then quit coming at all.
Three to four Evening Grosbeaks stayed for only an afternoon on Monday.
I was hoping for a few more days of their company. It seems that the White
Winged Doves, are over crowding my platform feeder. But my mourning dove
couple have been hanging out and cooing in the waterfall habitat, looking
for bits and pieces of sunflower chips and seeds.
I've been entertaining several Red/yellow Shafted Woodpeckers, this
winter. Recently I purchased the very nice Wildbirds double suet feeder
with the tail prop. Now I have too many of these beauties, the normal ones
and the others who are still here.
The new feeder is also a favorite of my Downies and harry woodpeckers ,
that are not very frequent. They are coming to the back a lot more with
this new feeder! I need to go buy a second one now.
I don't mind staying home, with all the beauties in my garden and
forest. But I do hope this feeder will turn into a regular station for my
Pileated woodpeckers. They already have tons of natural food, but that's
how it should be.
