Hi Tweeters,

It's been quite the Spring down here in Clark County with out of the
ordinary birds showing up each week. With the Stay at Home, Stay Healthy
initiate, I've tried to stay at home as much as I could (well, until I felt
like I was going nuts or to see an interesting bird found by others) which
has worked most of the time. Birding in my backyard has been quite good
though which has taken some of the sting out of the current set of
circumstances that we face. Bird highlights include:

SWAINSON'S HAWK: Just flew over the house at 1:30 this afternoon. This may
be about the 9th or 10th individual to have gone through the county this
year with all birds presumably eventually heading north. Pretty good for
this species which, at best, is seen maybe once a year in this county. At
least four birders in Clark County have had at least one fly over their
properties. All birders to the north, keep your eyes and ears skyward!

DUSKY FLYCATCHER: One in my yard most of the day on April 27.
Painstakingly observed and all field marks noted. Constantly whitting.
Surprisingly, another Battle Ground birder had one in their yard on the
same day about 2 miles from me.

Solitary Sandpiper: One flew over the house low yesterday morning - only my
second for my yard in 16 years.

Yellow-rumped Warbler: Between 7-8 am on April 27, I counted 564 warblers
flying south over the yard! I estimated about 90% were Yellow-rumps. Most
I've ever seen in one day in Washington!

Nashville Warbler: Seen on April 25 and April 28 in the yard. I think I've
only seen this species twice before in my yard.

Western Tanager: a flight of 17 over 1.5 hours of observation time
yesterday morning. Always fun to see in active migration.

I think we'll have a fallout down here tomorrow if the weather forecast
holds. We'll see what drops in!

Stay safe and be well while you are keeping your eyes and ears skyward.

Cheers.

Jim
