This afternoon, while sitting on our back patio taking a break while gardening we were surprised to add three AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS to our yard list. Our property in Skamania County is at 1,000' on top of the western running ridge that separates the Columbia River from the Washougal River, and are about three miles north of the Columbia River. As higher flying birds come down the Columbia River Gorge when they reach the Cape Horn area they can turn north along the western side of the Cascade Mountains and head towards Vancouver Lake and the Ridgefield area or continue north up the Willamette Valley. We get flocks of swans, geese and cranes on a regular basis but didn't anticipate adding pelicans to our yard list. Wilson Cady
