Dear Tweeters,
It is raining pretty hard right now, here in the Middle Upper Lower Middle Upper Skagit Valley. A few minutes ago, I poked my head out the door, trying to work up the courage to go out and bring my goats in from the deluge, when what should I see but a shrike!
I managed to get some decent photos after donning rain gear and grabbing my camera. This is the latest in spring that I've ever seen a Northern Shrike. I was figuring that it would turn out to be a Loggerhead Shrike, which would be rare, but probably less unexpected than a Northern, this time of year. Close observation proved otherwise. I think this is the same immature Northern Shrike that was here off and on for March and most of April, to the 25th of April.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
