Dear Tweeters,
Instead of rushing out of the house to go birding in search of some rarities that were reported yesterday, I took a few minutes to bird my yard. I was glad that I did. An adult BROAD-WINGED HAWK flew over! It flew low, heading over to the north, then started to soar in circles over the ridges there. I had time to grab my scope and got better views of a small Buteo with tail boldly barred in black and white!
Now I feel better about missing out on the recent spate of Swainson's Hawk sightings in Western Washington.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
