Dear Tweeters,
Today, the tenth of May, I was birding at the Fir Island Game Range with Lynda and Jared Elkin. We had just stepped up onto the dike in front of the boat-launch parking area, when Lynda and Jared casually remarked that they saw five White-faced Ibises! The three of us watched the birds as they flew in the direction of Big Ditch and Stanwood. This was shortly before eight in the morning.
I was very happy to see the ibises, because I had been out at Neah Bay last fall, when the species last appeared in Skagit County.
The place was rather crowded today, with quite a few birders and lots of dog-walkers, strollers, and sun-seekers. I let quite a few birders know to be on the lookout for ibises, but no one else saw them, as far as we could tell.
We also saw eleven Whimbrel. They were working some short-grass fields west of the Game Range. They would fly over and call, frequently breaking off into small sub-flocks.
