Eric and Tweeters,

Indeed this is a Harris's Sparrow, and a good photo of one. Congratulations
on a life bird!

This is definitely a rare species on the West Coast, although they do get a
lot farther south than WA at times. We have a few sightings of Harris's
every year in the Vancouver, BC area, but I've seen only one in Whatcom
County in my many years of birding there.

If the photo at the link is indeed a Harris's Sparrow it will be a new life
bird.

We spotted it out our dining room window under a feeder about 7:30. That
explains the noisy poor recording.

It took us a long time to find a name for this bird. We were all over the
guide book and finally found a close match.

At first, we considered some sort of Junco/sparrow hybrid.

The feeders just have sunflower seeds. It was in a mix of 3 male
Black-headed Grossbeaks above, a couple of White-crowned Sparrows and about
10 Purple Finch on the ground with it.

Anyone who's familiar with these and can confirm or state otherwise with
suggested ID's it would be appreciated.

Bird on.
