For a while now, I have been paying attention to the "interface" between Ravens
and American Crows in Seattle, mostly in urban and greenbelt areas. So it was
exciting to hear accounts of these big guys raising young amidst what must be a
considerable Crow population. How many pairs do we have in our city?
There has been a group of three adult Ravens in what in Discovery Park is
called the North Forest, an area of extensive conifer forest, mixed with mature
Red Alder. Around and within my "own" pitch in Capehart, we have been hearing this
small group calling or circling around, often related to groups of Bald Eagles and small
clusters of Crows But in the Summer months they are usually real quiet! Has any one
seen evidence of nesting here? And how many Raven families do we have in
Seattle parks and greenbelts?
Thanks a lot! David Hutchinson
