Hi Tweets - Lacking both Solitary and Spotted Sandpipers for the year, I decided to take advantage of reduced traffic and make a dash to Fife to check out the birds that Bruce LaBar and others found on Tuesday. After a bit of wandering, I finally figured out that in his description of how to reach the area of interest, Bruce wrote to walk 'diagonally southwest' from the parking area, when it's actually more like 'northwest'; the key is to head back (northwest) towards the railroad and then west to the hedge row which has a reasonable birders' path through it. Beyond the hedge, there is still (late morning on 5/14) a fairly large shallow pond with a couple of Gadwall, two Spotted Sandpipers, and a single Solitary. Happy Birding (despite it all!) - Jon Houghton, Edmonds
