Hi Tweeterdom - This afternoon, I took a break from grandparenting in West Seattle to walk along the south side of Alki and look for the jaegers that seem to be pretty abundant in the central Sound these days (a block or two of Beach Drive SW are closed for pedestrians only). I was quickly impressed by the number of harbor porpoise spread out along the center of the Sound. I also sighted a blow from a large whale (gray or humpie??), well to the south but was distracted by a jaeger flying north toward Alki. This bird turned out to be a light phase Parasitic Jaeger and displayed a sharply pointed tail when landing near feeding porpoises. I watched the bird on the water for at least 15 minutes while drifting with the tide. It ignored a Caspian Tern that made a dive nearby (but maybe didn't come up with a fish worth stealing!).
