Good morning,

The calls of both species are pretty similar, I would have to guess that
you were just seeing a California Scrub-Jay. We do have one record of
Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay from the southeastern corner of the state, but their
range is ordinarily a couple states away! As they say, when you hear
hoofbeats, think horse not zebra -- but keeping an open mind is also how
rare birds are found! :)
