This weekend I went to Camas Meadows Natural Area and found that the DNR
had put up a sign requesting "Entry by Permit Only". I called the number on
the sign to get some more information. The DNR put up the sign in March,
and is planning a new parking area and a trail to replace the informal
trail in order to better protect the endangered wildflowers in the meadow.
If all goes well, they are hoping to have the area open to the public again
next spring. Until then, they are requesting that people (birders are
people, too!) stay out of the meadow. The areas around the meadow,
including the roads described in "A Birder's Guide to Washington" remain
open.
