Birds of the World notes that dippers can use lakes and ponds as wintering habitat. I observed one at Lake George in Mt. Rainier last week and another was reported foraging in Lake Tipsoo.

Subject: [Tweeters] American Dipper at Lake Joy

Hi Tweeters,
Yesterday we watched an American Dipper gleaning for insects on lily pads at Lake Joy in rural east King county. It occasionally flew and landed on a dock, but spent the majority of 30-40 minutes scuttling about atop the lilies. I had never seen a Dipper outside of its typical stream/river habitat. Is this common?
