Dear Tweeters,
Today, the eighth of November, it was very windy in coastal Skagit County. Birding was difficult at Rosario Head, and nearly impossible at Green Point. From there, I made an afternoon visit to March Point, where it was particularly windy on the Padilla Bay side. Viewing from the northernmost tip of March Point, I spotted a Yellow-billed Loon. It was actively foraging between the point and Hat Island. After it continued feeding near a red-orange channel buoy (#4), it swam west a bit, then back to near the buoy. The last I saw of the bird, it was swimming north, toward Hat Island.
Oddly enough, there were fewer birds in the calmer waters of Fidalgo Bay, than there were battling chop and spray on Padilla Bay.
Also today, the drake Redhead continued at Heart Lake in the Anacortes Forest Lands. This bird is with a big flock of other diving ducks, mostly Lesser Scaups.
