Dear Tweeters,
Thanks to all who wrote back to me about the swan with the yellow on its head. Now it becomes apparent that this was just a Trumpeter Swan with a stain from an iron compound, originating in the soil of the nesting grounds.
I still had a merry time yesterday, looking at hundreds of swans. There are much worse ways to spend one's time.
