Subject: [Tweeters] A new spin on bird ID - a rainy day game

Hi Tweeters,
With eBird running its scheduled maintenance and perpetual rain in the
forecast, I think now is as good a time as ever to share a bird ID game
that my little head and I like to play together. For this game, your
standard field identification tips won't help. Instead you'll need a solid
grasp on wordplay - and perhaps a thesaurus. The ABA checklist might come
in helpful as well.

The game works like this: I'll tell you a sentence, and you have to figure
out what bird the sentence implies. For example: *Watch out! There's a 2x4
coming at your head!* is Wood Duck. Make sense? Simple enough, right?

Here are a few more. See if you can figure them out.

*I had to return your art supplies to the store.*

* Ugh! My little sister follows me everywhere and then tells on me to my
mom. *

*The guy who operates my excavator hails from Yukon.*

*My friend William does disaster relief.*

*Actually, William works for Gillette now.*

* A good batter can beat the shift by tapping the ball in any direction. *

*You know, I'm not sure that's going to fit. *(Good luck - this one is
hard!)

*The apple was declared the winner once its competition conceded.*
All answers are commonly accepted English names of birds on the current ABA
checklist. I'll share the answers tomorrow along with another set of
sentences. If you prefer instant gratification, you can e-mail me directly
with your guesses, and I'll let you know how you did. *Please don't reply
all to e-mail your guesses to the listserv* - that might ruin the fun for
others and will cause this game to devolve into spam. If you have some of
your own ideas for sentences, send them my way, and I'll compile and share
them with credits where it is due.

Enjoy the distraction!
