Dear  Tweeters,
The Black Scoter showed up again today (17 November) at Samish Island Public Beach, AKA the DNR Park. It was foraging alone, staying away from a small flock of Surf Scoters and an enormous flock of Red-breasted Mergansers. At least 1200 of the mergansers were present there this afternoon. The Black Scoter is a very tough bird in Skagit. I think it should be a code-4 species here. I have found Black Scoters in Skagit County only 10 out of the last 30 years.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
