Tweets -; With COVID restrictions, we split into 2+ groups today, with two teams of 5 going in opposite directions. Additionally, John Puschock and Alan went owling with Matt early, and they hung around the Viewing Mound for a few minutes after the rest of us headed over to start the regular circuit. Between the three groups, we turned up quite a few species. Weather, though threatening, stayed pretty nice most of the morning. Very little precipitation, and only intermittently were the clouds really dark.

Highlights:
a.. Wood Duck -; One male in the slough, seen from the Rowing Club dock
b.. CANVASBACK -; one seen by Jordan's group from the Lake Platform
c.. Ring-necked Duck -; one just above the weir -; oddly, only our second sighting this fall
d.. Virginia Rail -; several heard from along boardwalk
e.. Sharp-shinned Hawk -; Alan had one just after 7:30
f.. Barn Owl -; one flew past Viewing Mound around 6:40
g.. Western Screech-Owl -; early owlers saw and photographed a silent one
h.. Red-breasted Sapsucker -; both my group and Jordan's saw one
i.. Peregrine Falcon -; one flew up the slough
j.. Northern Shrike -; Alan and John had one around 7:30
k.. Varied Thrush -; one heard east of the boardwalk
l.. Cedar Waxwing -; a flock of 8 at NW corner of Dog Area
m.. White-throated Sparrow -; beautiful tan-stripe bird near 2nd dog beach, seen by both groups
n.. Western Meadowlark -; one at north end of East Meadow
I again did a late scan of the lake, which turned up a few more birds:
a.. Common Merganser -; three males flew up the slough to the lake
b.. Horned Grebe -; several
c.. EARED GREBE -; one -; a PARK FIRST. It was loosely hanging out with the large flock of coots
The only real misses for the day were Rock Pigeon; a real advantage of running multiple teams was that we often found each other's misses.

For the day, a grand total of 67 species.
