So I'm no expert on Junco ssp. but back in February at the Siberian
Accentor stakeout, I and several others encountered the 3 ssp. as they were
flocking through. Hopefully these images help a bit. The beauty of this one
was, from the front, it appeared to be an Oregon with the black hood, but
the back and sides were much more Slate-colored, with the grey back and
rufous patch in the middle, as well as the grey along the flanks. Oregon
would have pinkish sides and a browner/pinker back. A lot of this was
pointed out to me while we were observing by others that seemed to know
more on the ssp. complex.
